My reading habits… Well, when it comes to reading I like the room or the place where I’m at to be quiet. Sometimes I like to have music, but other times I have to turn the music off in order to concentrate on what I’m reading. I usually read in my mind, but sometimes I have to speak the sentence out loud to hear it and understand it better. Also, I don’t like to have any persons around me that can distract me or just simply talk to me, because once I start talking to someone and then five minutes after I try to back to read what I was reading and I don’t remember anything anymore. Sometimes I also have to read the page more than twice to have a better understanding of my lecture. I usually lay on my bed or sit down on my desk chair, of course with the door closed, to avoid any distractions. I also like to read in the library rooms because I am able to focus on my reading every, since everything is also really quiet there.
I don’t really like to read books. but what i do like to read are articles, articles that catches my attention and that are interesting for me, I think that's the only times where I actually read with out anyone telling me that i have to read something by a due date. other than that the only times I read is for the homework assignments, which lately have been have been enough to actually be able to have and identify this habits. The times when I usually have my readings are after my classes. If I know that during the week I have to do a lot of reading for all of my different classes, then I go to the reading and writing center which is located in the library, or I just go upstairs in the library where is usually quiet to read and have some homework done. Sometimes I do find it difficult to do the readings since all of my classes require reading, and I am not used to read that much, but I’m hanging there. I know that it’s only a matter of managing my time and to actually keep close attention to what I’m reading. Now that I know how and where is the best place and conditions for me to read, I will continue to read as how I have been doing so. The part that I am finding difficult or not exactly difficult, but that I’m struggling a little, is where I need no analyze and write. I know this is really going to help me, and it’s not that I can’t do it, but it’s just simply that sometimes I can’t find the right words to describe what I’m trying to say, but other than that, I think I’m fine.
Great reflection! I agree that interruptions make it very difficult to read. It is hard to find that 'quiet space.' I never would have succeeded as a student without the quiet booths in the library. It was so easy once I was there to stay focused. I'm glad you have found this space too. Thank you!
